“And a river went out of Eden to water the garden... The name of the second river is Gihon: the same is it that compasseth the whole land of Ethiopia.”

Africa is present in the Bible's opening chapters — one of Eden's four rivers flows through Cushite (African) territory.

“And the sons of Ham; Cush, and Mizraim, and Phut, and Canaan. And Cush begat Nimrod: he began to be a mighty one in the earth.”

Ham's descendants built Egypt, populated Cush/Nubia, and established Mesopotamian cities — African peoples at the center of ancient civilization.

“And Miriam and Aaron spake against Moses because of the Ethiopian woman whom he had married: for he had married an Ethiopian woman.”

God's chosen leader married an African woman, and God punished those who opposed the union.

“And when the queen of Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon concerning the name of the LORD, she came to prove him with hard questions.”

An African queen recognized and affirmed by Israel's wisest king; Jesus Himself honored her faith (Matthew 12:42).

“Princes shall come out of Egypt; Ethiopia shall soon stretch out her hands unto God.”

A direct divine prophecy about Africa's embrace of God, historically fulfilled in Ethiopia's early adoption of Christianity.

“And he arose and went: and, behold, a man of Ethiopia, an eunuch of great authority under Candace queen of the Ethiopians, who had the charge of all her treasure...”

The first recorded individual conversion in Acts outside Jerusalem is an African official — the Gospel reaches Africa before Europe.

“Now there were in the church that was at Antioch certain prophets and teachers; as Barnabas, and Simeon that was called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene...”

Africans were among the leaders who launched the Christian missionary movement to the wider world.

“And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt.”

Africa provided sanctuary for Jesus Christ. The land of Ham protected the Messiah.

“And Judas begat Phares and Zara of Thamar... And Salmon begat Booz of Rachab; and Booz begat Obed of Ruth.”

Hamitic (Canaanite) women appear in Jesus' direct genealogy — African ancestry in the Messiah's bloodline.

“And they compel one Simon a Cyrenian, who passed by, coming out of the country, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to bear his cross.”

An African physically bore the cross of Christ. His family became prominent in the early church.

“I am black, but comely, O ye daughters of Jerusalem, as the tents of Kedar, as the curtains of Solomon. Look not upon me, because I am black...”

A dark-skinned woman's beauty is celebrated in Scripture as "comely" — beautiful in God's design.

“Now when Ebedmelech the Ethiopian, one of the eunuchs which was in the king's house, heard that they had put Jeremiah in the dungeon...”

An African saved one of Israel's greatest prophets when Israel's own leaders would not.
